The cheddar curtain isn't so bad if you just slide by

Yep, I braved the state line on Thursday night and went up and visited friends of mine for dinner and entertainment (which is notably different from dinner and tournament, unless Guitar Hero counts). Where they are hardly counts as Wisconsin, really, they're right on the border; but hey, on the border is pret-ty fun!

You know, that's what Wisconsin is all about--dinner plus entertainment. Wisconsin doesn't want you to have to do it yourself**. I don't think I've ever been to a supper club where there wasn't an accordion guy or a guitar player or even a karaoke singer. The last time I was in a supper club (eating my fried chicken in someone's converted living room), my friends and I sang the harmony backup for Suspicious Minds. We rocked that former living room...we may have even gotten a free bowl of peas for our efforts, it's hard to say.

It *is* very strange to see people smoking in bars/restaurants in the Lesser White North, though. You'd not think that 13 years of my bar-going life would be erased by the time that has passed since Illinois banned it, yet...still.

I did observe some pretty skillful Guitar Hero--though I declined to play myself, as I hadn't had enough to drink at that point. I think one of the rules of GH should be that you have to put your all into it--none of this playing while lying on the couch crap. If you see the "Whammy" flashing, I wanna see the full arm extension. Make it worth the price of my admission, you know? I'm just sayin.

And so eventually, it was time to head home because *yawn*, I'm not as young as I once was. All the way home I was so tired, *so* tired. Couldn't wait to crawl in bed. And when I did?

&^%#@*% insomnia.

**Much like Canada, Wisconsin is interested in your overall happiness. I appreciate that.
