SOTD: Let It Rock, Kevin Rudolf

This song keeps begging me to open the sun roof....

(Verse 1 : Kevin Rudolph)
I see your dirty face
High behind your collar
What is done in vain
Truth is hard to swallow
So you pray to God
To justify the way you live a lie, live a lie, live a lie
And you take your time
And you do your crime
Well you made your bed
I'm in mine

(Chorus)
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock

(Verse 2: Kevin Rudolph)
Now the son's discrased
He, who knew his father
When he cursed his name
Turned, and chased the dollar
But it broke his heart
So he stuck his middle finger
To the world
To the world
To the world
And you take your time
And you stand in line
Well you'll get what's yours
I got mine

Chorus:
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock

(Verse 3: Lil Wayne)
Yeah!
Wayne's world
Planet Rock
Panties drop
And the tops
And she gunna rock 'til the camera stop
And I sing about angels like angelock-?
And pay m-?
A-?
A-?
A-?
?
Im in here up like b***h what's up
Mechanic, me, I can fix you up
I can f**k you up
I can f**k you down
Shorty we can go wherever just pick a town
And the jewelry is louder than an an engine sound
Big xxx rocks like on the ground
Baby like sex that's on the ground
Weezy

Chorus:
Because when I arrive
I bring the fire
Make you come alive
I can take you higher
What is this, forgot?
I must now remind you
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
(x2)

Just Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock
Let It Rock

(Lil Wayne)
I'm back like I forgot somethin
I'm somethin
-? Rock rubbin' rap runnin'
Miles like I'm trying to get a fat stomach
Like Wayne the personal trainer
My aim is perfect I'll bang ya
Period, Like the remainder

(Kevin Rudolph)
I wish I could be
As cool as you
And I wish I could say
The things you do
But I can't and I won't live a lie
No not this time

SOTD: Ieva's Polka, Loituma

They're Finnish, and it's not technically an SOTD, since I didn't wake up with it in my head, but it totally caught my ear on the internet this morning!

Ieva's Polka

I think I might live

OMGosh--I've been down with this terrible cold that's been making its way around. Terrible! I've sounded like Kathleen Turner for more than a week, which, while it has it's charms, I've really had enough of!

Hope everybody had good Xmas and NY holidays--mine were good, and my New Years' resolution is to pay more attention to you guys.

MY goal is to post every day, even if I have nothing to say. We'll see how long until *that* gets annoying!

New music for to while away the winter hours

Was watching the current_ channel and they have a show call La Blogotheque. The Fleet Foxes were featured. I love them! By the looks of 'em, I'm pretty sure they live in a van down by the river, but I like 'em.

Help me pick a teeny-tiny laptop

I'm potentially in the market for a little tiny netbook. I know they are not as high functioning as a regular laptop, but the size really appeals to me.

I know I was as much hard drive space as is realistic, and that I want Windows XP and not Linux, so between these 2, what do you think?

Asus EeePC 901

Dell Mini 9

And speaking of netbooks...

...well, if I wasn't, I was about to.

I'm looking into getting one--Dell Mini 9 or 12, the Asus ones. Anybody have an opinion? As soon as I get decent links, I'll post them so you electronic nerds can help me (as before...bow, bow, scrape, scrape)

Yay the internets!

Assuming my tech skills are functioning tonight, I should have the internets at my house by 9pm!

It's like not having running water. Smartphone has been geting a workout.

SOTD 12/1/08: Title TBD

Ohhh and it's alll right and it's coming on we gotta get get right back to where we started from. Love is good, love can be strong, we gotta get right back to where we started from.

I've moved!

Yep, a week ago Tuesday I moved into a townhouse my parents own. It's 9 minutes from work (fan-tastic) and walking distance to movies, restaurants, and bars. It's different living alone (well...with the troublemaking cats), but I like it. I've warned my father about his habit of letting himself into my domiciles, as I have a worser habit of standing naked in my kitchen.

The big house is unsurprisingly still for sale, but that's how it is in this market.

The new house is super cool--2 bed, 2.5 bath, wood floors on the main, metal beam running thru the bedroom, full basement (for my keggers, my sister says). I don't have much furniture yet, but that'll come (the couch, specifically, on Dec 10th). I'm having a hell of a time with the lightswitches, as every single one seems to be on the opposite side from where my reflexes want them to be, but hey.

Phone showed up Wed, internet will be here Monday (well, not here, as I'm at Panera right now), and TV Tuesday.

Housewarming pending...and like any other offer, if y'all wanna drive up from GA or down from America's Hat, I'll make you the guest of honor. I'm just saying. :)

Okay, so

I had one really bad day on Friday and a few moments yesterday, but today? I'm doing fine. Finer than I expected! (Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? NO! And it's not over now!)

And do you know why? Because as I told the Wisconsin boy on the night of Meredith's Second Best Thanksgiving Day Breakup Ever, you gotta want me. Really, that's all there is to it. If you don't, then I've not got that much to be upset about. It's like grilling up some Black Angus for a vegetarian. No matter how good it is, they're still not gonna like it, so you might as well get another dinner partner.

I've got a lot going for me. Like my kickass chicken pot pie, for example

SOTD: Precious and few

You know, 'precious and few are the moments...we can shaaaaare...and if I can't find my way back home (can't find my way) well it just wouldn't be fair (wouldn't be faaaaiir), cause precious are the moments we 2 can share.'

You guys still out there?

It's been a while--I'm sorry, it's been crazy. I'm not going to try to cover all that's gone on in life since I last posted, but I'll catch you up as needed.

As a lot of you whom I know i.r.l. already know, DB and I have gotten divorced since you all and I last really spoke. It's ok, we get along pretty well. We're both on match.com and not too long ago, Match delivered his profile to me as a potential mate, as we expected would happen. Life has this weird sense of humor.

We're both still living in and owners of the big blue house, but were working to change the "living in" part before the holidays. So, that's the biggest news.

Now hopefully I can entertain you guys more frequently in the future!

My head hurts...ask me why...

Oh forget it, I'll just tell you.

This morning I was lying in my bed with my laptop resting against my bent knees. My small troublemaking black cat (as opposed to my large troublemaking orange cat) started to slip off the side of the bed and dug her claws into my quilt to gain purchase.

I didn't want her to tear a hole in the quilt, so I reached over to grab her and in the process, my PC tipped toward me and the lid hit me right on the bridge of my nose.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if it actually looked like a black eye. Kiiiinda just looks like dirt. If it's turned colors tomorrow, I'll take a pic for you--might as well laugh, I do. Less cool than the time my sister broke my nose while we were wrestling (at age 20), more cool than the time I actually did step on an upturned rake and smacked myself in the head (at age 25).

I've made it my personal responsibility to keep the McHenry County cool quotient at a median level. I contribute where I can.

SOTD 8/27/08: Raise Up, Petey Pablo

Lord I have no idea where this one came from!

Chorus: repeat 2X]
This one's for North Carolina! C'mon and raise up
Take your shirt off, twist it 'round yo' hand
Spin it like a helicopter
North Carolina! C'mon and raise up
This one's for you, uh-huh, this one's for who?
Us, us, us

[Petey Pablo]
Who am I? Petey Pab m*th*rf*ck*r
The first to put it down for North Carolina
But guess what (what?), it's been worth it
I'ma superstar, bought me a big ol' car
Four point six (see the car!)

Whole plain, Marsian hoe, green county, criminal, damn
Transfer, center rear, brown over here (green over here)
Pass the table, down on the, (?) Eastern (lemme think)
Johnson County, Franklin, Bourgon, Newport, Warrenshell to Kingsville

Halafax, Statesville
and all my niggaz doin right behind 'em
While this right here, right here, right here, right here

[Chorus]

[Petey Pablo overlapping Chorus]
Uhh, uh-huh, uh-huh, beat it, beat it
You remember them days y'all, we used to play y'all
The radio had put our own on partner song y'all
We used to (rep our city, rep our city!)
Runnin through the school halls
just before our basketball pep-rally jumped off (hah!)
My home, my house, my hood (hah!)
My brother, my sister, my cous' (hah!)
My niggaz that'll die from beginnin
Been wit me even 'fore I been knew the world
Ya bitches parent said it, now I gotcha starin at it
Would-a been the same ol' North Carolina, it's (?)ville
Y'all niggaz just gettin it, oh it's a shame isn't it?
Oh you thought we scared, would be comin home wit a whole lotta songs

[Chorus]

[Petey Pablo]

Now, back to the Boone County Fairgrounds

So, this weekend, I went to (witnessed? attended?) my first pow wow!

Now, I'd otherwise say I went to "a" pow wow, but seeing as how I appear to have been drafted for corn-vending-related non-indebted servitude at the next pow wow this weekend, it seems that this one just past became my "first" rather quickly.

It was pretty cool--I like history, music (drums in particular), learning new things--so there was a lot there I found interesting. It was pretty much like the wikiarticle says above--a dance circle, multiple drum groups that took turns playing, a variety of dancers. Now, I'm told--with a not-insignificant amount of scorn--by my non-caucasian friend that this event was organized by hobbyists, rather than natives, so it was pretty different from the "authentic" kind. [Apparently I'll learn more during my corn adventure next weekend?].

I also got a totally non-authentic, but very pretty, red dress and (sorry ma) a cool anklet. Yep, more "gypsy" foot jewelry for me. I think there's a 12 step program for it somewhere, but I'm in deep avoidance. :)

I did wear sunscreen and tried to stay out of the sun, so as to not repeat my adventure from this past June. I got to sit in caucasian seating (ie, the shade) and upon my arrival promptly got tossed a bar of Irish Spring soap. Very funny ;)

I do have pictures and some sub-par cell phone video, which I'll post if I get the go-ahead.

Another of my favorite G.S songs, while I'm on the topic...

The Leaving of Liverpool.

Good music, dancing, and uisghe make for a pretty good evening if you're Irish. Or any other persuasion, for that matter! :)

A complicated guide to help you determine whether you think Monty Python is funny.

Don't worry, you'll know right away which camp you fall into!

Voyez

Found this while looking for today's SOTD

The Dublin Reels (Chieftains).

A reel is a kind of Irish step dance...

SOTD 8/18/08: Tell Me Ma, Gaelic Storm

With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes? I knew I liked her for a reason

CHORUS: I'll tell me ma when I go home,
the boys won't leave the girls alone.
They pull my hair, they stole me comb,
but that's alright when i go home.
She is handsome, she is prety,
she's the belle of belfast city,
She is a courting. One. Two. Three
Please won't you tell me who is she?

Now Albert Mooney says he loves her,
all the boys are fighting for her.
Knocking on the door and ringing on the bell,
saying:"Oh my true love, are you well?"
Down she comes as white as snow
with rings on her fingers and bells on her toes.
Old Johnny Murphy says she'll die
if she doesn't get the fellow with the roving eye.

Let the wind and the rain and the hail come high,
and the snow come shoveling from the sky.
She's as nice as apple pie,
she'll get her own lad by and by!
When she gets a lad of her own
she won't tell her ma when she comes home.
Let them all come as they will

Coming soon:

Details of a Boone County pow wow...

SOTD 8/17/08: Lake Shore Drive; Alliotta, Haynes, and Jeremiah

Audio

There’s a road I’d like to tell you about,
Lives in my hometown.
Lake Shore Drive the road is called,
And it’ll take you up or down.
From Ratz on up to Riches,
Fifteen minutes you can fly.
Pretty blue lights along the way,
Help you ride on by.
And the blue light’s shining with a heavenly grace,
Help you ride on by.

And there ain’t no road just like it,
Anywhere I’ve found.
Running south on Lake Shore Drive,
Heading into town.
Just slipping on by on LSD,
Friday night trouble bound.

It’s starts up north from Hollywood,
Water on the driving side.
Concrete mountains rearing up,
Throwing shadows just about five.
Sometimes you can smell the green,
If your mind is feeling fine.
There ain’t no finer place to be,
Then running Lake Shore Drive.
And there’s no piece of mind or place you see,
Riding on Lake Shore Drive.

And there ain’t no road just like it,
Anywhere I’ve found.
Running south on Lake Shore Drive,
Heading into town.
Just slipping on by on LSD,
Friday night trouble bound.

It’s Friday night and you’re looking clean.
Too early to start the rounds.
A ten-minute drive from the Gold Coast back,
Makes you sure you’re pleasure bound.
And it’s four o’clock in the morning,
And all the people have gone away.
Just you and your mind and Lake Shore Drive,
Tomorrow is another day.
And the sun shines fine in the morning time.
Tomorrow is another day.

(whoo.)

And there ain’t no road just like it,
Anywhere I’ve found.
Running south on Lake Shore Drive,
Heading into town.
Just snaking on by on LSD,
Friday night trouble bound.
