SOTD 6/29/08: Kelly Clarkson, Miss Independent

Miss independent
Miss self-sufficient
Miss keep your distance, mmmm

Miss unafraid
Miss out of my way
Miss don't let a man interfere, no

Miss on her own
Miss almost grown
Miss never let a man help her off her throne

So, by keeping her heart protected
She'll never, ever feel rejected
Little miss apprehensive
Said ooh, she fell in love

(Chorus)
What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true

(Verse 2)
Misguided heart
Miss play it smart
Miss if you wanna use that line, you better not start, no

But she miscalculated
She didn't wanna end up jaded
And this miss decided not to miss out on true love

So, by changing a misconception
She went in a new direction
And found inside, she felt a connection
She fell in love

(Chorus)
What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true (when love, is true)

(Bridge)
When miss independent walked away
No time for love that came her way
She looked in the mirror and thought today
What happened to miss no longer afraid?
It took some time for her to see
How beautiful love could truly be
No more talk of why can't that be me
I'm so glad I've finally seen

(Chorus)
What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true (when love, is true)

Miss independent

Guess what tomorrow is?

SOTD 6/25/08: Katy Perry, Hot n Cold

Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
(you)You don't really want to stay, no
(but you)But you don't really want to go-o
You're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down

I just got the cd and my brain is bathed in it!

Toothpaste

Yes it is possible to get it in your eyes without some sort of weird thing going on in your bathroom. And it hurrrrts!

Tea

I really like tea. A lot. A lot a lot. And not so much hot tea, although I do also like that, but really, sun tea. Terribly bitter, strong, black, unsweetened, room temperature tea. I know, someone who sleeps thru the night as well as I do (not) should probably avoid the caffeine, but I think there's more than just caffeine in it cause I can't live without it. (I also like to leave it sitting out so that it gets even more bitter and---disgustingly--warm. It's probably all the bacteria that make it taste increasingly bitter. Ew, I know.)

I was in Toronto several years ago, where one can only get horribly sweet tea. I couldn't wait to get back to the US of A so I could get me some miserable bitter McDonald's tea. Mmmmm

Like I've told people I know, I like my tea like I like...
...my Catholicism...dark, with a hint of punishment
...Ed Harris...a little aged, but still *very* tasty
...my ex-boyfriends...bitter and bottled up
...my lifeguards...brown and wet
...I had to delete this one, because it was too obnoxious. Funny though ;)
...This one too

So have a good night! If you're awake between 1 and 4, call me, I'll be here. Drinking my tea.

Word of the Day for Friday June 20th

Defenestrate.

Now, I speak myself a little French, and when I first looked at Friday's WOTD, I thought, huh. Interesting, fenestre means window, I wonder what defenestrate means.

Well, it means to throw (someone) out of the window!! There's a world in the English language whose sole purpose is to describe what happens when you throw the object of your least affection (for me, Wayne) out of the nearest portal.

Like I told some of mes amis already, I really wanted to try out my new word on Friday (grrrrr), however, I managed to restrain myself. Now, if you find you're not able to resist your own defenestration urges (and we all know how powerful they are), SEND ME PICTURES!

I will soooo post them :)

SOTD 6/23/08: Katy Perry, Ur So Gay

You’re so sad maybe you should buy a happy meal
You’re so skinny you should really Super Size the deal
Secretly you’re so amused
That nobody understands you
I’m so mean cause I cannot get you outta your head
I’m so angry cause you’d rather MySpace instead
I can’t believe I fell in love with someone that wears more makeup than…

You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like boys
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like…

Parental Advisory Audio

Not an SOTD, but

I've been looking for this version!

Maxamillion

Marvin Gaye had it right when it comes to you-know-what, I suppose, but this one really surpasses when it comes to the time-honored art of booty-shaking. Which, by the way, I am trying to arrange.

Who wants to go dancing?!? You're even welcome, Kennesaw, if you want to make the drive, but I can't promise much...(it is the suburbs after all....)

SOTD 6/19/08: Britney Spears, Gimme More

Center of attention ('tention)
Even when they're up against the wall
You got me in a crazy position (Yeah)
If you're on a mission (Uh-huh)
You got my permission (Oh)

We can get down like there's no one around
We'll keep on rockin' (Keep on rockin')
We'll keep on rockin', rockin' (Uh-uh)

Cameras are flashing while we're dirty dancing
They keep watchin' (Wait)
Keep watchin
(Feel's like the crowd is saying)

Listen

Scratching your cr*tch? That's fine. But those shelled legumes, well, that's just not acceptable

SOTD 6/17/08: West End Girls, Pet Shop Boys

Sometimes you're better off dead
There's gun in your hand and it's pointing at your head
You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
In a restaurant in a West End town
Call the police, there's a madman around
Running down underground to a dive bar
In a West End town

Listen

I have weird dreams.

Really weird ones. Disconnected, nonsensical dreams. I've been told it's a good thing I never did drugs, my dreams being what they are, who knows if I'd have recovered...

Last night's dream
Rob and Juan, from HCX, and I are driving around all night looking for a Texaco station.

Then, when dawn breaks, Juan brings me back and drops me off at my house. It's a white Colonial. There is a row of green planters in front of the living room windows, but one of them has fallen to pieces. Wedged in between 2 other planters, in its place, is one of those green Rubbermaid totes.

In front of the row of planters is a row of rocks, covered with moss. Two of the rocks don't really have moss on them though, they're just spray-painted green.

And then I woke up.

I went back to search how long ago...

...it was that the Llama Song showed up in my subconscious. Monday Oct 9, 2006!

So, one one hand, I feel a little better that5 I'm not boring you all to death with repear SOTD. On the other hand, my subconscious has been chewing on llama llama cheesecake llama for 1.5 years.

That's not right.

Wanna know what else hurts like a mother?

Teriyaki sauce in your eye. Holy Mother of God.

Whoa Hey!

Just realized (or, realised, if you speak Canadian) that my Me and the Moon SOTD post contained a link that was considerably more off color than the one I intended. I'm not saying the one I did intend is all that classy either, I'm just saying that here at mairzydoats, I want you to get exactly the right level of lowbrow humor that I'm looking for.

Not too much, not too little.

Happy Father's Day

to all the dads out there!

SOTD 6/15/08 (Llama llama cheesecake llama)

It's the Llama song again. I know...horrible...I don't know what's wrong with my sleeping brain

My niecebaby turned 2 yesterday!

Oh, I can't believe she's 2! She's so wonderful :)

Like I was telling hw the other day, it wasn't until she was born that I truly felt that "I'd risk my life for hers" feeling. And she's not even my kid!

I love her :)

Happy Birthday CLA!

I really am a lucky woman...

...to have been blessed with such wonderful friends :)

SOTD 6/8/08: Me and The Moon, Gaelic Storm

Me and the moon stayed up all night;
I brought the whiskey! He brought the light!
Me and the moon stayed up all night;
I brought the whiskey! He brought the light!
A' quarter to three, we're feeling fine
when the sun comes up I'm gonna miss my friend moonshine.

Don't have audio for this one, but here's a totally unrelated piece of Irish song. It's not high class, but it's funny (make sure the little pitchers aren't around.)

Movie Review: The Strangers

For the newbies, you might find some things below to be spoiler-ey. I try to put true spoilers in secret decoder mouse mode, but you never know. Caveat read-or.

Cute Persons to look at (0-5): 2

Yep, I'm gonna go with a 2. The lead chick is Liv Tyler, whom I think is quite attractive.

For the girls...the main guy squeeze is Scott Speedman. He's totally a fencesitter for me--I'm not really feeling him, but I know that if I were at a party and he turned out to be nice or smart or funny, I would probably fall deeply in like with him.

Plus he's Canadian (sigh). And we all know how I feel about that.

That's really it. Honestly, there are really only the 2 of them in the movie. There are a few creepy people and a best dude friend, but the above choices are pretty much it!

A Satisfying Ending (0-5): 1. Booooo. Seriously--like I've said a million times, I get enough uncertainty in my real life. I like my movies to be wrapped up nicely at the end with a big giant bow on top.

Maybe there'll be a sequel, but I just don't care. Grrrr. Not a bad ending, just not one that makes me happy. And, since it's an M-ocracy here, I get to make all the rules ;)

Action/adventureness (0-5): 3. Decent! Good action, good running around and stuff. I like.

Love storyness (0-5): 3. I'm going to give it a 3. You can see that the leads really do care for each other, which is really nice to see.

Good Scaryness (0-5): 3. Some pretty good scenes that made me jump and cover my eyes. The psych-out factor was pretty well done.

Kissing (0-5): 2. A 2 only because there wasn't enough of it. I like lots of kissing in my movies--lots and lots of it. There's a decent make out scene, although it was interruptus-ed, which is kind of a bummer. Still, all in all, good.

Cinematography/Special Effects (1-5): 3. Pretty good. Well shot, interesting camera angles, different things to look at, good creepy surprises.

Extra Credit: None that I can think of.

Total: 17/35. Worth seeing if you like scary movies. If it had had a big red bow on top, I think I would have really liked it. I was left with the "but..why..and what about?" at the end, which isn't my favorite, but all in all, it was pretty good.

Everyone say hi to Patrick

He's new.

"Hi Patrick"

There, now you have to fend for yourself. And The Eh Team* is a pretty tough opponent, so....

:)

*(The A Team theme song is stuck in your heads now, isn't it? You're welcome)

SOTD 6/4/08: I Kissed a Girl (Katy Perry)

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry Chapstick
I kissed a girl, just to try it
Hope my boyfriend don't mind it

Ears

It has a good beat, I can dance to it. I give it a 10!

More SOTD

Saturday's SOTD, btw, has been stuck in my head for a week. My subconscious has really sunk its teeth in on that one. Other good Daft Punk?

Around The World (last one on the page)
One More Time (4th one)
Something About Us (first one--I so dig this song!)

I think I'm done fooling around for the night, so

after changing a bunch of stuff (including editing actual html, at which I am a total novice), if I've made anything unreadable, just let me know and I'll fix it.

A lot of the fooling was to make links open in a new window, because I think it's annoying when they don't. However, you can always right-click and ask it to open in a new window if it's not working right.

And then tell me so I can fight with it some more.

For example, why can I make the music links pop open using target="a_blank", but other links (like Jeffrey Dean Morgan) cease to work at all if I use that (unless you right click)?

Canada? Any suggestions?

SOTD 5/31/08: Harder Better Faster Stronger (Daft Punk)

Work it harder
Make it better
Do it faster
Makes us stronger

More than ever
Hour after
Our work is
Never over

Until I remember how to delete comments,

you can pretty much guarantee that any "get rich quick" or "buy this awesome stereo from Brazil" comments are from spam bots or people with a lot of time on their hands, and, are totally not supported by me or my staff. (Which is also me.)

On to find out how to delete.

Great new look

Same ole Mairzydoats. Let me know if it's hard to read...

I've got a trip to the bodyshop in my future...

...to get the sharkbites looked at. It's really time, and what with summer coming, I don't my babycar to be uncomfortable with her swimsuit body and all.
Sharkbite #1 (http://mairzydoats.blogspot.com/2006/12/bp-carwash-took-bite-out-of-my-car.html#links) as you might remember, is long overdue for fixing.

Sharkbite #2 (above) is rather newer. See, when you take your car to the city, you risk it making the journey in one piece ;). She's tough though, the 4Runner, she took it in stride--the garage door popped that piece right off without causing too much other harm.
The sharkbit-er, less so. And I really am enjoying rubbing it in. A little. In the nicest possible way, of course.
;)

An update on HCZ

So, I've now worked for HCZ for just over a month and I still really like it. Still no free tampons, but all in all it's pretty good. Let me go over my initial list with some updates...

Better
-BETTER GDP!!! That is Good Documentation Practices, for those not in my industry. Oh so much better! GDP is still better. Needs work, but most of the problems are people who are unfamiliar with the rules, not resistant to them. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.*
-Free pop (although I don't drink it). Still don't drink the pop, but oh, the free iced tea. If i could just figure out how to run a line from the machine upstairs down to my cubby hole, I could have caffeine EVERYSINGLESECONDOFMYLIFE!!! Um, sorry, every single second. We'll leave it at that (caffeinecaffeinecaffeine).
-3 lunchrooms, for when you need a change of scenery. I've still only eaten in one of them.
-CINNAMON ROLL COFFEE!! Tastes just like the "toast coffee" from HCX...mmmmmm.... (caffeinecaffeinecaffeine)
-No automatic flush toilets (ie no more wet you know what...) I am having a hard time shaking the habit of planning one's exit from the stall (gathering yr self and yr stuff and getting out without getting wet). This may take some time....
-I sit next to Rob J, who is really funny! I got my welcome present of a laser pointer from him this morning and he said that he will be willing to chase the dot upon request. He also proactively asked me not to call HR on him, cause he's just kidding. About whatever things he may say in the future. He's still funny, and so are a bunch of the other folks I've met. Interestingly, I've gone from sitting next to one guy who listen to techno incessantly to ANOTHER GUY WHO LISTENS TO TECHNO INCESSANTLY. I think it might be some sort of penance. I'm not sure.

Worse
-Not as many people to talk to. This one's getting better. As anyone who knows me IRL can attest, I have never had a problem making friends with strangers...and have continued that habit.
-Not as many cute boys to look at. A few, yes, but alas, still true. Sigh.
-Lunch is super boring. Sitting in a 2nd floor lunchroom with a bunch of chicks. Borrring. (However, my 1st year at HCY was terrible too, until I made some good friends, soooo) Lunch-is still locationally boring, but better company-wise
-Only 1 building, nowhere to visit when you're tired of your desk.
Got 2 words for you: Ware. House.

Weirder
-In order to get from my desk to the washroom and back, I must pass through no fewer than 8 doors. Toast coffee machine? 6 doors. Lunchroom #1? 4 doors. It is a constant door-opening fiesta! And it's not like they're locked doors, no, just doors to open, you know, just cause. I nearly feel like the energy I use to replace my arm at my side is unwarranted. Maybe I'll just walk around with my arm stuck out...(no, that wouldn't be strange at all...). Tomorow I'm counting the number of times I have to open a door. I shall report back :) 128. That was the result of the door count. 128. Ridiculous.

All in all, things are good. I'm still bossy and people are still mostly ok with it, since it's really for the betterment of HCZkind that I do what I do.

I do still need to find someone to play catch with me at lunch, which is proving a challenge. Too bad there aren't any watersports here, then I'd really show em a thing or 2.

One could always surf the pond...

*Never miss the opportunity for a line from Caddyshack. Never.

SOTD 6/1/06: Semi Charmed Life

The sky it was gold, it was rose,
I was taking sips of it through my nose,
And I wish I could get back there,
Some place back there,
Smiling in the pictures you would take,
Doing crystal myth,
Will lift you up until you break,
It won't stop,
I won't come down, I keep stock,
With a tick tock rhythm and a bump for the drop,
And then I bumped up. I took the hit I was given,
Then I bumped again,
And then I bumped again.

43 Things

I used to keep this list in my head, however, now, with the advent of the internet and all, I've moved it to this site called 43Things. What list, you say? Why, the list of random things I've always wanted to do. I suppose, for some, it might be finishing graduate school or teaching a child to read, but you know, I'm just not that noble. I just don't think anyone reading this would find that very interesting.

Yeah, and so, I guess I'd like to have solve world hunger on my list, but what was the first thing that popped into my head? Forklift certification.

No, my job doesn't require me to be forklift certified and I'm not looking for one that does, but do you know how much fun I think it would be to put on a short dress and some red heels and waltz into a bar, in, say, Cicero or Blue Island [<--insert Chicago accent here], and chat up some guys about warehouse stuff, you know? Mebbe talk about the Bears and what's hot at over at www.repolift.com, over a nice Polish sausage?

Very very fun. Extra super fun. And dude, I would laugh all the way home!

So, my list, which currently numbers 5 things, is a little more eclectic (surprise, surprise.) I'm still adding, cause, I mean, I really hope there are more than 5 things I want to accomplish in this life.

My 43 Things

Another gorgeous day!

And between shopping for and planting flowers with my mom yesterday, and sitting on the deck all day to day, I'd say I'm a good medium to medium-well at this point. A little salt and pepper, some A1, I'd make a pretty good dinner!

Yes, mom, I know I should be wearing sunscreen, but sometimes I don't feel like it...until later...when even with the Advil I just took, I certainly do feel like it (shrimp on the barbie, that is.)

Anyway, here a pic. In my defense, my verysmartphone's camera does lean on the reds a little, so it's not as bad as it will seem. However, that little circle? The fastener on my swimsuit top, burned into me for the rest of eternity...

Do NOT tell my mom I got a sunburn. I can hear it now, "OH Merri, don't you have any sunscreen?"

I'm gonna get t-shirt with this conversation printed on it :). Or maybe a tattoo (to go along with my Trident submarine tat, mom) ;)

Do you want to know who I am totally adding to The List?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Yes, he's the actor who played the Winchester boys' dad on Supernatural. And yes, I'm aware of how creepy it is that I'd like to have both "Dean" from the show (here, on the right), and the guy who played his dad over for dinner. What can I say, I'm equal opportunity.

JDM played an Irish guy (with a reeeally questionable accent) in the movie PS I Love You...mrrrrrow. I totally recommend it for the kitchen scene alone (sighhh!).
